FAQs
This guide is designed to help you prepare for and fully enjoy your visit to Shadyside for the House Tour.
When and where is the tour? Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 11 AM to 4 PM. Check-in at Winchester Thurston School.
What is the tour experience? It is a self-guided tour in which you may hop from house to house in any order you choose, with friendly docents at every home sharing the fascinating stories and history behind each residence. A specific flow is in place at each home for crowd comfort, and certain areas may be off-limits.
When do tickets go on sale? Tickets will be available several months in advance. Early sales will be offered at the best rate. We anticipate they’ll sell out quickly, so be sure to sign up to get early access.
Is the tour wheelchair accessible? We’re sorry the homes on this tour are not wheelchair accessible.
How do I volunteer? We warmly welcome volunteers, they are the heart of this cherished event. Please reach out to us via the button below. As a thank-you, every volunteer receives a complimentary ticket.
What should I wear? Comfortable footwear is recommended. Many homes ask that shoes be removed, so easy slip-on styles are ideal.
May I take photographs? Photographs are not permitted unless the docent or homeowner grants approval at each residence.
Is parking available? Street parking is limited. We recommend parking once and hopping aboard the complimentary Molly’s Trolleys for effortless travel between homes. Walking from house to house is a great option for those who are able.
Are children welcome? Children 12 and older are welcome with a ticket and must be accompanied by an adult.
How long should I plan for the tour? Most guests spend two to three hours, though you may take as much or as little time as you wish.
What if it rains? The tour proceeds rain or shine. An umbrella and comfortable shoes are advised.
May I bring a bag? Small bags are permitted; larger items may be left in your vehicle.
What is the refund policy? Tickets are non-refundable, except in the rare event of cancellation.
How do the trolleys work? Simply show your ticket and hop aboard. The complimentary Molly’s Trolleys run continuously between homes and the check-in location for your convenience.
Where do proceeds go? Your participation helps sustain this cherished Pittsburgh tradition and enhances streetscapes, landscaping, and placemaking that keep Shadyside vibrant and beautiful for all.
Why did the Shadyside House Tour go dark for the past few years?
Like many annual events, the Shadyside House Tour was disrupted by COVID-19.
The Shadyside community, along with the Shadyside Chamber of Commerce, are excited to offer you, once again, the opportunity to tour exceptional private residences this fall.
